Is Shooting 8mm's E-mailing Procedure Ethical?

I wonder because when I was still a member I tried to email someone on the forum. I was surprised to see that when the email form appeared, the email address of the person I was going to contact WAS NOT VISIBLE!

On THIS forum, you can access information that has been voluntarily supplied by a member WITHOUT the knowledge of anyone else, including this forum's moderator.

As filmmakers, is it wise to SOLELY support forums where you can't even email someone else without knowing that the email message you send is truly private?

I've come up with two reasons as to why a forum might deny a member someone else's email address information until AFTER the person they are emailing responds to them via email. One reason is ethical, the other one is not.

One reason the email address does not appear could be to prevent someone from registering and then scooping up email addresses to put on a list. That would be an ethical reason to not make the email list visible.

Another, not so ethical reason would be to allow the forum moderator to receive a copy of all e-mails generated from the forum email list.

I think I've figured out how to make the whole forum email address issue more user friendly. Allow members to decide for themselves whether or not they want their email address visible when other members click on it. This would allow anyone the additional option of using their own email program to contact another forum member and would help prevent the possibility of other email copies being generated and sent to person's unknown.

Without a visible email address option there is no true way for a forum member to know if additional copies of their email message has been sent to person's unknown. [img]graemlins/thumbs_down.gif[/img]

Alex, really, I think you need some serious therapy.

Some of your posts sounds like they're coming from Ted Bundy's diary, or maybe just your garden variety schizophrenic.

That you would sit around stewing about some freakin' boards emailing functions and quantify them as "ethical" or "unethical" is bizarre beyone explanation.

Do us all a favor:
Print out all your posts on this board, take them to a shrink, and I'm sure within 5 years, they'll use this technique to replace the ink blot tests.

I think my reasoning is quite good on this topic.
By now enough Shooting 8mm members have possibly taken a gander at this topic and at least they can make a decision about emailing that is informed.

Just to pull the plug here: Emails sent through the Shooting 8mm forum goes directly to the recipient. Absolutly NO copies are sent to the administrator or anyone else.

The reason email addresses are not visible is to prevent people/robots from abusing the list of addresses to send out spam or similare.

I respect Awand's answer as being the truth. If you reread my first ost, you'll clearly see that there are two distinct possibilities.

I questioned the situation because of my continued surprise that someone like Mattias can periodically be rude to others and seems to be above the fray, but if the people he insults resonds to him, Roger will defend him, than Awand may ban them, that is what happened to me.

So it makes me question this situation. But I presented both sides fairly, and I don't question Awands response at all.

The funny thing about dishonest people, is that their story constantly changes, making it easy to catch them and see that they're just making it up, but in your case, you think you're so smart, that nobody is going to see this.

YOU, Roger, and Chas were the three amigos on the Brantley forum who took turns bashing me. The funny thing was even if only one of you disagreed with me, and the other two did not, I would NEVER hear any acknowledgment from the other two. So all it ever took was for one of you three to disagree and insult, and then if I defended myself, THEN the other two would intercede, against me.

But big whoop, the biggest loser over your Ruffian tactics was the Super-8 community at large and newbies that were deprived of vital Super-8 information and interchange.
